Y’all, this week started with me jumping into what can only be described as a polar plunge straight outta the Ice Bucket Challenge. Why? Because our water heater kicked the bucket. I stood there in that shower squealing like a piglet at the county fair, praying I could rinse the shampoo out before hypothermia set in. And that was just the beginning.
The next day, my car decided it needed a spa day at the shop apparently. You ever notice how cars don’t break down when you’ve got money sitting pretty in the bank? Nope. They wait until your juggling bills like a circus act and then say, “Surprise!”
With everything going on, the brain fog set in on full blast by Thursday. It’s like it took a vacation without telling me. I couldn’t remember what I did earlier in the week, left my keys behind, forgotten people’s names I’ve known for years, and stared at the stove like it might give me the answers to life if I looked hard enough. Spoiler: it didn’t.
And bless it all, we had a customer about give us a run for our money this week. You know the kind, the ones who test your patience like they’re getting paid by the hour to do it. By the time we got through rearranging schedules and smoothing things over, I thought, “Lord, Job himself would’ve been impressed.”
But, here’s the part that matters: through every single one of those hiccups, breakdowns (literally), and frosty showers, I wasn’t alone. Jesus was right there with me. Protecting me, loving me, and I’m pretty sure laughing with me, too. Because let’s be real… if He created humor, He’s probably got the best seat in the house when life turns into a blooper reel.
The truth is, we don’t have to have it all together to be loved by our Savior (thank goodness!) He doesn’t wait until your house is in order, your car’s running smooth, your brain’s sharp, and your patience is endless. He loves you right in the middle of it all.
So if your week feels more like a sitcom than a sermon, take heart. Jesus isn’t waiting at the finish line with a clipboard and a grade sheet. He’s walking beside you, smiling, steadying your steps, and maybe chuckling a little when you squeal in the cold shower.
You don’t have to be perfect… you just have to be His.
