So there I was, trying to treat myself to one of life’s simple joys: a soft-serve ice cream cone. I had visions of sitting down, enjoying the cool treat, watching a movie outside, and having a peaceful, maybe even Instagram-worthy moment.
But no, ma’am. That is not what was in store for me that evening.
See, it was hot. I’m talkin’ “sweat-behind-your-knees, ice-cream-turns-to-soup-in-3-seconds” hot. And to make things extra festive, the wind decided to join the party. So there I am, ice cream in one hand, trying to gracefully maneuver into a plastic deck chair like a Southern lady of leisure, and suddenly…
💨 WHOOSH
My hair takes flight like it’s got its own drama channel, whips around, and plants itself right in the melting mess of my cone. I mean it was in there, y’all. Swirled. Dipped. Garnished.
At that point, I had a choice:
* Have a meltdown to match my cone
OR
* Shrug, eat around the hair, and keep on movin’.
I chose option B. Because, let’s be honest… life’s too short to waste ice cream. 🙃
Later that night, back inside, I was brushing my hair and realizing I had created what can only be described as a vanilla-swirled dreadlock. And I couldn’t help but laugh. Not just because it was ridiculous (though it absolutely was), but because it reminded me of something important:
Life is messy.
It melts when you’re not looking.
It blows in directions you didn’t ask for.
And sometimes, despite your best efforts, you wind up wearing your dessert.
But here’s the good news:
Even when life is tangled and sticky and not at all what you planned, it can still be sweet.
Sometimes the laughter shows after the cleanup. Sometimes the joy is buried under a layer of chaos and whipped topping.
But it’s there.
So if today feels like a mess…
If you’re to-do list is dripping down your arm…
If your peace has flown out of the window with your hair…
Just know this:
You don’t have to wait for everything to be tidy to enjoy it.
Lick the cone. Laugh through the wind.
And know that God’s grace covers sticky situations, too. 💛
